We protect the floors, tear out the old tub or shower, and haul it away. Then we set the new valve, reroute the drain if needed, and frame or block for seats and grab bars.
Cement backer board goes up, then the waterproofing membrane, pan liner, and flood test. Once it passes, we set tile or panels, grout, and caulk the corners with silicone.
We hang the glass, check the door swing and seal, run the shower, and confirm the drain flows. Then we walk the job with you and sweep up before we leave.

Older homes around Portneuf Valley and Old Town Pocatello have their own habits - cast iron drains, out-of-square walls, and valves that have been dripping since the last remodel. Here's what we see most and how we handle it.
Ask a pro →We isolate the source - pan, drain ring, valve, or a failed corner joint - then repair it and re-test with a flood test before closing the wall. Most leaks trace back to a pan liner that was never tied into the drain correctly.
Recurring mold usually means water is getting behind the tile or the room isn't venting. We fix the waterproofing, replace any rotted backer board, and upgrade the exhaust fan so steam clears instead of settling.
A flexing or cracked pan will leak. We pull the base, inspect the subfloor for rot, and set a new pan with the correct slope to the drain so water never stands in the corners.
We check the valve, cartridge, and supply lines, then clean or replace what's restricting flow. A drafty shower often just needs a proper door seal and a ventilation fix.

The right crew is the one that pulls the permit, waterproofs correctly, and stands behind the work. We're a state-licensed plumbing contractor, we build to ICC codes, and we offer a workmanship warranty on every walk in shower installation pocatello project. Yes, most shower replacements and conversions in pocatello, Idaho require a plumbing permit because the drain and valve are being altered. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job, so you don't have to deal with the city. Small repairs like re-caulking usually don't need one.
A pan-and-door swap takes one to two days. A tub-to-shower conversion usually runs three to five days, and a custom curbless tile build takes seven to ten days because of the mud bed, waterproofing cure time, and tile work. We give you a day-by-day schedule before we start.
For most homeowners, a low-threshold tile shower with a frameless glass door is the best balance of looks, access, and resale value. If you're planning to age in place, a curbless build with grab bars and a bench is worth the extra cost. We'll walk you through both options at the estimate.
